first seminar class last night.

new student today.
14 altogether.

sang new name song to the tune of "where is thumbkin?"
"Hello (child's name).  Hello (child's name).  How are you?  How are you?"
DIED when R said "good." HAHAH

introduced "David."
"Ms. Seeto, David's not brown!!"
my poor first graders don't know what hit them.
AT FIRST WE WERE AFRAID-- WE WERE PETRIFIED...
we will survive.

students LOVED this.  a little over their heads with the teacher speaking without being illustrated, but the actions by David speak to them.

Just another day in the life

K Orientation today-- 3 out of my 4 invited showed up today...hooray!  Very nice parents. :) One kid cracked me up and almost broke my arm when he shook my hand.

Getting nervous about Monday's kindergarteners coming in...I have a long list of things to do before then!

GREAT book for the beginning of the year-- the kids LOVED it and really relate to Howard B. Wigglebottom!  I ordered 2 more of his books from the library...

sunflower from another teacher to brighten my day! :)

how the kids will keep track of their instructional reading levels-- now they know which boxes to take their leveled books from

created these out of a cardboard box...MUST teach at least the 1st graders how to tie shoes by Monday!!  gonna make this a new center...

Week 2

Week 2 is sooo busy with both teaching and grad work-- and I have a feeling that things are not going to die down until I graduate in May.  Wahh!

One of my kids told me that he thought that our classroom library needed a door-- ha!  And R was able to tell his friend how to spell "man" today-- that is so nice! I remember when he didn't know even 10 letters of the alphabet.

Crazy parent meeting today.  It's tough enough being with the kids for 6 hours + 15 minutes minus having to keep track of what a child eats, when he eats, how much he eats, etc.  AY CARUMBA.

My class count will be 14 on Monday if everyone who I've been told to expect is actually coming.  Wowzers!!  The cherubs will be arriving on Monday-- fingers crossed!!

Survived the First Week

So happy that the first 2 days are over!  My nerves were crazy this week!  And they'll be back on the 10th when my kindergarteners come in...

I forgot to give the kids my goodie bags on the first day, and I forgot to make the popcorn...oops!  Did both yesterday, and they were soo excited.  I warned them about eating the orange kernels because they would break their little teeth.  Two minutes later, my little friend R ran up to me with a kernel and said, "Ms. Seeto!  Ms. Seeto!  I found a seed!!  I take seed, put it in the ground!!!  And I plant it when I go home and it grow to make more popcorn!!"  HAHAHAHAH, never a dull moment.

Yay for a 4-day weekend! :)
